SEM Rowers Win Gold!

Three SEM students who row with White Rock Boathouse took the gold medal in their event at the Central Division Youth Championship in Oklahoma City this weekend. James Cotter, Corbin Ray and Marcos Olivarez rowed in the men’s novice 8+ boat and had the fastest time in the qualifying heats on Saturday (5/12).
U. S. News & World Report National Rankings- Best High Schools 2012

U. S. News & World Report evaluated nearly 22,000 public high schools in 49 states and the District of Columbia. Schools were awarded gold, silver, or bronze medals based on state proficiency standards, how well they prepare students for college, and other factors.
The School of Science/Engineering has been named a gold medal school and ranked #3 out of 22,000 schools across the country.
School of Science/Engineering Named 2012 Intel Schools of Distinction Finalist

School of Science/Engineering Among 18 Finalists Honored for Innovative Science and Math Programs

NEWS HIGHLIGHTS
• School of Science/Engineering one of 18 U.S. schools named Intel Schools of
Distinction Awards finalist.

• Awarded for excellence in innovative math program in the high school category.

• Received $5,000 award from the Intel Foundation and a trip to Washington, D.C.
in September, when six winners will be announced.
SEM Ranked #1 in Texas/Dallas by Children At Risk Organization

Throughout the spring of 2012, CHILDREN AT RISK is releasing the 7th annual School Rankings across the state of Texas. The School Rankings strives to serve as an accessible guide for parents, educators, and community members on the performance of local schools and to spark important community dialogue on the quality of public education in Texas.
SEM Wins Region UIL

The Science and Engineering UIL team competed at the Region UIL Meet this past Saturday and won the 5A Region 2 Championship. This year, 36 SEM students advanced to and competed in the Region Meet, our largest group to date! Thank you for all of the students who were a part of the Region UIL team that helped SEM bring home the Sweepstakes trophy. The First Place Sweepstakes trophy is awarded to the team with the highest number of sweepstakes points, which are earned for the school whenever an individual or team places in an event. The following students placed in their events; members of 1st or 2nd place teams that did not individual place are also listed:

SEM Wins District UIL

The Science and Engineering UIL team competed at the District UIL Meet this past Saturday and easily won the the District Championship. The total points have not been officially announced, but at this point SEM has 471 championship points while the second place team has only 225. Many SEM teams and individuals placed and will be advancing to region - all students who placed in the top three in their competition or were a member of a first place team will be competing in Waco on April 21st at the Region UIL Meet. CNN recently took a look at the School of Science/Engineering-the top high school in the country as ranked by Newsweek magazine and the Washington Post.
CNN American Morning features SEM as Best High School in America!

Newsweek studied more than 1,000 of America's top schools to determine the best of the best: the ones producing kids ready for college and life after high school. It named The School of Science and Engineering in Dallas as its best high school in the US.
SEM Named 2011 National Blue Ribbon School
